Body sculpting and Liposuction is the most commonly performed cosmetic procedure in the US. Although it is often considered a procedure used by females, male body sculpting and liposuction is becoming an increasingly popular procedure, especially in our image-driven society. Dr Misbah Khan performs body sculpting procedures for men in her office under local anesthesia. A procedure that only requires a few hours can be a life changing experience for some men. Dr Khan’s technique can help men remove stubborn areas of fat that hinder their appearance and keep them from achieving the youthful toned look they desire. This procedure removes fat by inserting a small cannula into the body and suctioning out the fat, leaving patients with a slimmer, sculpted appearance.
Liposuction for men is most commonly performed on the head and neck areas, chest, flanks, abdomen, neck and chin. It can also be used to treat the:
- Upper arms
Liposuction is also effective for treating gynecomastia, an enlargement of the male breast tissue caused by a hormonal imbalance. This common condition can be treated through breast reduction surgery, but liposuction often offers the same effective results with minimal downtime and practically no visible scarring. Many men with gynecomastia only have a small amount of fat tissue that needs to be removed and can usually benefit from liposuction in combination with laser lipolysis.
The best candidates for liposuction are men who are in reasonably good shape overall, but may have one or more stubborn areas of fat that does not respond to traditional weight loss methods and or weight based training. Localized areas of fat often leave patients looking disproportionate and can lead to low self-esteem and other issues. These areas can be spot treated through liposuction to remove the excess fat and leave patients with a slimmer more toned appearance. Larger areas can also be treated, but it is important to remember that liposuction is not a substitute for traditional weight loss.
Dr Khan highly recommends that after liposuction, patients must maintain their body weight through diet and exercise in order to prevent the removed fat from returning. Liposuction requires life changes and is not just a quick fix. Patients with realistic expectations are usually most satisfied with their results.
Dr Khan performs male body sculpting and liposuction by the tumescent technique, a minimally invasive technology that helps reduce scarring, volume loss and recovery times. A small cannula is inserted into the skin through a small incision to suction out fat in the targeted area. The cannula injects a saline solution and local anesthetic into the area to keep it swollen and numb, making fat removal easier and virtually painless. The liposuction procedure takes 3-4 hours and can be performed in Dr Khan’s office. The entire procedure is performed under local anesthesia and patients are awake throughout the procedure.
After the liposuction procedure, patients are wrapped in a special garment or stockings before they go home. You can return to work within 3-4 days. Compression garments should be worn for a few weeks to help minimize swelling and bruising and to help the area heal as quickly as possible.
After liposuction, men can expect results to be visible right away, even when the area is swollen. Results will become more evident as swelling subsides, and will continue to improve for several weeks before full results are evident. Scars from the liposuction procedure will also fade and are usually completely healed within a few months.
Body sculpting and liposuction for men can be slightly more expensive than it is for women because of the tough, fibrous nature of fat found in men. The exact price will be determined by Dr Khan in her office after a complete evaluation of the areas that require treatment at the time of consultation. Despite higher costs, liposuction is still an affordable safe procedure that produces effective results with minimal scarring and short recovery times.
